What we aim for
This website is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. That covers colour contrast, keyboard operation, text alternatives for images, form labelling, heading structure and behaviour at 200% zoom.
What has been done
- Every colour pairing on the site was measured, not eyeballed. The brand red and the sky blue are used as button fills with white text, never as small text on the dark background, because at that size they would fail.
- Every photograph has a text alternative, or is marked decorative where it carries no information.
- The whole site can be operated from a keyboard, with a visible focus outline and a skip link at the top of every page.
- Interactive controls are at least 44 pixels tall so they can be hit on a phone.
- Motion is limited to slow reveals and a single marquee, all of which stop for anyone whose system asks for reduced motion.
- The inventory search announces its result count to screen readers when it changes.
How it is checked
The site is scanned every month with axe-core against the WCAG 2.1 A and AA rule sets, at a desktop viewport and again at 375 pixels wide, because some rules only fire on a phone-sized screen. Every month’s result is published as its own report — the folder is in the footer of every page, and each report lists the pages scanned and any issue found.
Automated testing does not catch everything. It cannot judge whether alternative text is accurate or whether a page makes sense read aloud, so the scans are paired with a manual pass.
Known limits
Photographs of vehicles are described by the unit they show. Where a listing has several photographs of the same unit, later photographs are numbered rather than individually described, because the dealership does not publish captions and inventing descriptions of angle, colour or condition would be worse than numbering them.
If something on this site blocks you
Tell us and it gets fixed. Ring Spearfish on 605-559-3030 or Belle Fourche on 605-568-1005, or email signatureautooftheblackhills@gmail.com. Please say which page, what you were trying to do, and what got in the way — and if you are using a screen reader or another assistive tool, which one.
If a page is unusable for you, the dealership will give you the same information over the phone.
